Rob Fordyce
Captain Rob Fordyce has been a professional guide, television host, and athlete for the last 30 years. Nominated as one of the “Top 50 Fishing Captains in the World”, Rob has competed and placed as a top 3 finisher in more than 130 fishing tournaments around the globe. Rob has also produced, hosted, and/or co-hosted more than 160 outdoor television episodes. Considered as a master guide for fly fishing giant tarpon, Rob was the first guide in history to win all four major tarpon tournaments in the over 50 year history they carry. At the age of 17, Rob won the prestigious Met Master Angler award, making him the youngest man decorated for this award in the tournaments 62 year history. Rob sits on the panel of iconic instructors for Sandy Moret’s Florida Keys Fly Fishing School. Rob plays anadvisory roll and consultant for Yeti Coolers, Temple Fork Outfitters, Seahunter Boats, Maverick Boats, Nautilus Reels, Kaenon sunglasses, Cortland Lines, and Smith’s Consumer Products.
Paul Tejera
For over 30 years, Captain Paul Tejera has been considered one of history’s premier guides in South Florida, the Florida Keys, and areas of the Everglades. Paul is one of only 4 guides ever to have won all 3 major Tarpon tournaments with multiple anglers in the over 50 year history they carry. With over 15 tournament title wins to his name and numerous podium finishes, this makes Paul one of the most successful proven guides to ever fish the Florida Keys. His largest Bonefish was a 15Ib 11oz monster which won him a prize of $10,000 in a one day winner takes all tournament. Recognized as a world class fly caster, Paul is the only saltwater guide to have ever won the highly contested “Best of the West Fly Casting Championship ” held in Denver, Colorado. The IGFA recognizes Paul with the “Off the Platform Award” for his achievements and contributions to the sport of fishing and his community. Paul is also one of the iconic instructors for Sandy Moret’s Florida Keys Fly Fishing School.
Curriculum
9:00 a.m. – The basics of casting in saltwater.
9:15 a.m. – Picking the correct fly line for the right situations.
9:30 a.m. – Leader importance: IGFA, proper taper, knots, materials, length, and why.
10:15 a.m. – Casting (all participants).
11:30 a.m. – Video: casting, stripping, hooking, clearing, and fighting big fish.
12:00 p.m. – Demonstration in skiff: guide/angler communication techniques, casting, hooking, clearing, fish fighting.
1:00 p.m. – Lunch.
2:00 p.m. – Fish fighting techniques; the wrong and right way. Pulling on a scale (all participants).
3:00 p.m. – Casting (all participants).
4:15 p.m. – The basics of sight fishing and common mistakes. Proper gear for a trip. Closing and Q & A.
5:00 p.m. – Dismissal.
